Bethlehem Firefighters Local 735 / Rainbow Lettering
Small details. Real constraints.
Supplied Maltese cross artwork · Color variants, lettering adaptation & proofs
The assignment
Embroidery adaptation
The brief
Red and gold Maltese cross graphics needed consistent store applications. Small lettering had performed poorly on hats, where the embroidery height was limited to 2.3 inches.
My contribution
I revised the hat layout around the size limit, working through the balance between the emblem and the surrounding circular lettering. I carried feedback from sales and embroidery into the updated proof.
The deliverable
A revised hat layout approved in the email thread, alongside coordinated red and gold store proofs.
From store artwork to cap embroidery
A different arrangement for a smaller space.
The cap layout moves the surrounding lettering outside the cross. The proof specifies an overall size of 2.1 inches wide by 2.3 inches high.
Lettering sits inside the circular band.
Outer lettering changes the balance around the cross.
Layouts shown at comparable display sizes. Dimensions describe the specified artwork, not its physical size on your screen.
The constraint
A 2.3-inch maximum height and prior difficulty with small hat lettering.
The decision
Rearrange the lettering around the emblem, with feedback from sales and embroidery.
The outcome
The revised layout was approved in correspondence. No finished stitch-out is shown here.
